Experience. Passion. Diligence. And a drive to get things done.

Phil Vahey, PhD, is no stranger to the tech world or the field of education. He began his career as a software engineer at an Apple subsidiary, working on the game-changing FileMaker Pro database. Yet, he was driven by a higher calling: merging technology with learning. Trading code for classrooms, Phil became an early pioneer in the field of Learning Sciences at UC Berkeley's Graduate School of Education.

Driven to bridge the gap between research and practice, Phil left academia to join SRI Education, where he focused on creating innovative and scalable education solutions. He managed a portfolio of over $25 million and 20+ impactful projects, consulting with industry leaders and edTech startups, publishing academic articles, and delivering key reports for the U.S. Department of Education.

At Houghton Mifflin Harcourt (HMH), Phil led multiple initiatives, including guiding HMH's competency-based framework, providing Learning Sciences consulting, and launching the Tapestry initiative to unify diverse educational frameworks into a cohesive design strategy.

Now, as the Founder and President of Applied Learning Insights, Phil brings his deep expertise and passion to help organizations like yours. He blends innovation, research, and real-world application to make learning more effective, accessible, and equitable.
